LSU Postgame Notes 


Team Notes 

1. Tonight’s game marks the first game between LSU and McNeese State on the gridiron.  

2. LSU’s game captains were 30 Josh Jasper, 80 Terrence Toliver, 43 Daniel Graff and 92 Drake Nevis  

3. Tigers making their first career appearance tonight: 91 Chris Davenport, 54 Justin Maclin, 59 Jonathan Nixon, 44 J.C. Copeland and 39 Josh Johns. 

4. McNeese State won the toss and deferred to the second half. LSU received the opening kickoff. 

5. LSU extended the nation’s longest non-conference regular season winning streak to 32 games.  

6. LSU pushed their streak to 30 straight non-conference wins inside of Tiger Stadium.  

7. LSU improves to 26-1 overall in non-conference games along with an impressive 42-4 mark in night games under Les Miles.    

8. LSU recorded its second safety of the season when DL Drake Nevis tackled MSU RB Andre Anderson for a 3-yard loss with 6:04 left 

in the second quarter. The other safety happened in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game when a North Carolina punt attempt rolled out of the endzone.  

9. LSU faked a punt for a first down for the first time since Oct. 25, 2008, when Josh Jasper had a 7-yard run in the third quarter versus 

Georgia. Jasper did it again tonight when he took off for 11 yards down the McNeese 34-yard line late in the second quarter.  

10. With two sacks tonight, LSU has already equaled its total from last season of 21.  

11. LSU missed its first point after attempt tonight since the fourth quarter of the Troy game on Nov. 15, 2008. (Colt David missed it.)  

12. LSU had two players, RB Stevan Ridley and RB Michael Ford, rush for two touchdowns. The last time the Tigers accomplished that feat was RB Charles Scott and RB Jacob Hester at Tulane during the 2007 season.   


Individual Notes 

13. RB Stevan Ridley had two rushing touchdowns tonight: a 2-yard run with 0:44 to go in the first quarter and a 10-yard run with 9:47 left in the second quarter.  He now has six rushing TDs for the season and nine for his career. Ridley has now scored in five of his last six games.  

a. For Ridley, it was the first multi-touchdown game of his career and the first by an LSU running back since Keiland Williams against Louisiana Tech last season.  

b. LSU has back-to-back games with at least one player rushing for a pair of touchdowns. QB Jordan Jefferson reached the endzone twice at Florida last weekend.  

14. DT Drake Nevis, reigning SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week, delivered another tackle for a loss that led to the safety with 6:04 remaining in the second quarter.  

a. It was the first safety for LSU on an individual tackle since Nevis at Alabama on Nov. 7, 2009.  

b. Nevis finished with five stops for the five time of his last six outings.   

15. For the second straight week, Josh Jasper made a major impact with a fake on special teams when he recorded a first down on an 11-yard run. It was the second successful fake punt of his career. The other – 2008 vs. Georgia. 

a. Jasper missed his first career point after attempt tonight. He was previously 56-of-56 for his career.  

b. Jasper has now converted two fake punts for first downs and a fake field goal for a first down in his career.  

c. Jasper connected on a 31-yard field goal with 9:32 left in the fourth quarter. He is now 13-of-16 for the season and 32-of-38 for his career.  

16. RB Michael Ford recorded his first career touchdown when he scored on a 6-yard run with 6:12 left in the third quarter. He added another score on a 36-yard scamper late in the fourth quarter.  

a. Ford became the fifth player to score a rushing TD for LSU this season.  

b. Ford finished with a career-high 86 yards on 10 carries.  

17. WR Russell Shepard hauled in seven receptions for 53 yards, both career-highs. He entered the game with 18 total receptions in 18 games.   

18. RB Richard Murphy equaled a career-best with three receptions. The last time Murphy reached that feat was at South Carolina during the 2008 season.  

19. CB Morris Claiborne picked off his fourth pass of the season with 13:08 left in the fourth quarter. He has garnered four of LSU’s eight interceptions on the season.  

a. Claiborne recorded an interception in back-to-back games, becoming the first Tiger to do so since LaRon Landry in 2006. (2007 Sugar Bowl vs. Notre Dame, Nov. 24 at Arkansas).  

20. LB Kelvin Sheppard finished with his fourth double digit tackles performance of the season and ninth of his career. He racked up a team-best 10 tackles along with forcing his fifth career fumble, first of the 2010, in addition to his first career recovery on the first play of the fourth quarter.  

21. LB Ryan Baker tallied nine tackles and added a career-best two sacks. He has secured eight or more tackles in three of his last five games.  

a. With his two sacks, Baker joined Nevis as the only Tigers with multi-sack efforts.    

22. DE Kendrick Adams totaled a career-high five tackles. His previous best was four stops against Mississippi State earlier this season.  

23. S Karnell Hatcher has posted five or more tackles in three straight games.
