Brooks Breaks Out

Brooks had five tackles, a sack and an interception for a touchdown. Go inside to hear the LSU defensive back talk about his career night.

On scoring his the first touchdown of his career…

“It was kind of surreal. I had a dream I would have a pick-six in this game. It happened just like I dreamed about it. I had the dream last night.”

Being able to read the ULM offense and keep them at bay all evening…

“You start keying in on what they are saying and how they are going through their progressions and checks. On the second one I wasn’t expecting it because I thought he would put a little air on it. He threw it almost dead at me. I wasn’t expecting it.”

After the starters stepped out, a message from senior linebacker Kelvin Sheppard was delivered…

“I call Kelvin Sheppard the Peyton Manning of our team. He’s like our quarterback out there. He rallied us together late in the half when we put the backups in. He let us know, ‘Just because you guys are in doesn’t mean we can let up on these guys. We have to come out and play four quarters no matter who is in.’ The message really got through to everybody. Everybody came out on another level with a another intensity.”

The close-knit bond on the defensive side has paid off for a unit that many considered young and short on experience during the preseason…

“Everyone is like brothers. We are family out there. The chemistry we have together is something special.”

Brooks had a career game, finishing with five tackles, a sack and an interception returned for a touchdown…

“This would have to be my best memory because it was my first pick and my first pick six.”

After grabbing the interception, Brooks said he had just one thing on his mind…

“Don’t get caught. Don’t get caught and don’t get a celebration penalty.”
