It has been a long road for Evangel defensive end Jermauria Rasco, a five-star prospect that has been on the national radar for much of his high school career; meaning schools from East to West have flocked to Shreveport to meet with Rasco and his mother, Gwen.
“The overall trip was pretty nice,” Rasco told Scout.com's Jason Higdon. “I came by myself. Coach Muschamp picked me up from the Gainesville airport. Coach Muschamp has been recruiting me for the last four years. We have a great relationship. All the coaches are great people and they were very laid back and we chilled the whole time, good people.
“I'm not exactly sure when I am announcing but I can see myself playing anywhere. I wanted to good chance to see what Florida was about and I did.”
According to Gwen, Rasco returned home with a smile on his face.
“He loved the 75-degree weather and pretty girls,” she laughed. “It might be a little late for Florida to be getting involved, but coach Muschamp knows him from Texas and they get along great. That had Jermauria interested, and now that he’s back he said he really liked them and wished he had given them a look earlier."
The visit followed a trip to Baton Rouge, which his mother was in tow for.
“We had a really good time that weekend, and it drove a lot of things home for us,” she said. “Coach Miles and Coach Haley and the staff always treat us well. They’ve been keeping in contact and done their part not only in the past, but also this last month. I have been impressed. We definitely feel the love with those guys.”
While Rasco has yet to name a leader, the nation’s No. 8 defensive end is down to a handful of schools, notably LSU and Florida State. With National Signing Day less than 24 hours away, Gwen can feel her son inching closer to a decision.
“I think he starting to get hold of things,” she said. “It’s been a long process that has taken a lot out of him. I think he’s just ready for Wednesday to come and go. He knows he has some great opportunities. I think he’s just wanting a situation where he can play and feel comfortable around his teammates and coaches.”
Rasco is set to announce from Evangel High on Wednesday.
