It was another warm sunny afternoon in Baton Rouge, and Les Miles and the Tigers were out for a 4 p.m. practice. The media was allowed in for 20 minutes, and it kicked off with the Big Cat Drill.
Josh Williford dominated Bennie Logan
Ego Ferguson knocked Evan Washington back a bit and had a few things to say about it
Chase Clement took KeKe Mingo down
Lavar Edwards got the better of Deangelo Peterson
Nic Jacobs popped Ken Adams
Jarrett Fobbs and Ron Brooks locked up to a virtual tie
Russell Shepard beat Ronnie Vinson
Craig Loston bested Kadron Boone
Rueben Randle overpowered Derrick Bryant
Note: Chris Tolliver joined Sam Montgomery and Brandon Taylor in a green jersey
All three quarterbacks looked impressive in throwing some nice fly routes. They showed some nice touch and arm strength hitting the receivers in stride. Zach Mettenberger and Jarrett Lee exchanged a few high fives, so it looks like the competition is friendly and healthy.
It appears that Tyrann Mathieu is running at the No. 2 corner spot opposite Mo Claiborne. Brandon Taylor and Craig Loston joined those two in the first team secondary. Eric Reid and Ronnie Vinson ran as the second safety unit.
The offensive line ran a drill double-teaming the defensive linemen. Josh Williford and Alex Hurst gave Anthony Johnson a rather rude greeting, driving the youngster into the ground. Justin Maclin and Tyler Edwards went at each other a couple of times. They seemed to be equals out on the end. Ken Adams, Michael Brockers, Josh Downs and Lavar Edwards made up the first team defensive line.
For the second consecutive workout, Kevin Minter, Ryan Baker and Stefoin Francois composed the first team line backing corps. Karnell Hatcher continues to be worked in with the second team. Baker has taken a very clear leadership role at the position. He's been very vocal through this first week of practice.
