Bell Travels In With Gordon

John Curtis defensive star Torrey Bell was in attendance for the Bayou Picnic this weekend on the LSU campus, one of a crop of uncommitted in-state talents still hoping for an offer from the Tigers.

John Curtis Christian has a pair of BCS-level prospects on their defensive line in 2012, and the staff has already locked up 6-foot-5, 250-pounder Dillon Gordon.

This past weekend, multiple members of the LSU staff went hands on with another Patriots star: 6-foot-4, 225-pounder Torrey Bell.

While he was unable to get into Baton Rouge until nearly five hours after the event began, Bell said that the two hours spent with the staff was well worth the drive in from New Orleans.

“We had our Spring Game so I wasn’t able to get there until around 2:30, but I hopped in the car with Dillon and our moms and we made the most of it,” he said. “We played Xbox and chilled for a while, then I got some one-on-one time.

“I met with a lot of the coaches and got to talk about where things are with my recruitment. I talked with coach Frank [Wilson] and coach Steve [Ensminger] and a few others. I told them that I am still working hard for that offer. They came and watched me this spring, even as late as this past week. They said that I am doing well, but I need to get into camp and perform at my best.”

Bell said that all colleges are recruiting him as a defensive end, and he pulled in early offers from the likes of Tennessee and Southern Miss. LSU, Auburn, and Mississippi State all put in calls to Gordon on April 15 – the first day coaches could contact players this spring.

“I am keeping things open and I plan to make my visits,” Bell said. “I’ll definitely be back to LSU, either in June or for the second camp in July. I feel like I am right there on the fence for being offered. Hopefully the coaches see something this summer or in the fall.”
