Laval to serve one-game suspension

LSU baseball coach Smoke Laval will serve a one-game suspension Tuesday due to a secondary violation of NCAA regulations that resulted from an inadvertent clerical error during the 2002 season.<br><br>Laval will miss the Tigers' game against Loyola-New Orleans, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.

The infraction involves the game participation of two players during February of 2002 before they had been certified to compete by the university. The players were not academically ineligible; however, they had not been certified at the time of their participation. Both players did eventually receive certification and were eligible to compete last season.

The secondary infraction was self-reported by LSU to the Southeastern Conference office.

Assistant coaches Turtle Thomas and Brady Wiederhold will manage the Tigers Tuesday in Laval's absence
