5 minutes with Drew Alleman

With All-American Josh Jasper gone, LSU's new kicker has big cleats to fill in 2011.

Player (No.)/position: Drew Alleman (38)/kicker Year (experience): Junior (squad)

Height/weight: 5-11, 183

Where he came from: Acadiana High in Lafayette

2010 stats: Handled kickoff duties in two games and averaged 63.5 yards on seven attempts. 2011 impact: Takes over kicking duties for Josh Jasper for an offense that should give him plenty of chances to score points.

Did you know: Played in three consecutive Class 5A state championships and kicked a 32-yard game-winning field goal as time expired in 2006 to lift Acadiana past Sulphur 13-10. … In his senior season, 56 of his 61 kickoffs reached the end zone. … Like Jasper, Alleman was a star soccer player in high school.

On taking over for an All-American: "That's always been a driving factor to know I'm following a guy who did what Josh did. It helps me to know I've got to push myself to be just as good or better."

What makes his an effective kicker: "I'm accurate. I have a strong leg and I have good placement on kickoffs. I think hang time will be there and give our guys a chance to make plays."

On getting the chance to run gadget plays like Jasper did so effectively: "We'll have something coming. The players and coaches have a lot of confidence and I'm trying to prove it to them every day on practice."
