Player (No.)/position: Jermauria Rasco (59)/defensive end
Year (experience): Freshman
Height/weight: 6-3, 255
Where he came from: Evangel Christian in Shreveport
2010 stats: 92 tackles, 21 of which were sacks
2011 impact: Getting on the field might be a challenge for Rasco with the talent glut ahead of him at the end spots, but he could emerge as a pass-rush specialist – especially if there are any injuries.
Did you know: In three seasons at Evangel, Rasco racked up 57½ sacks.
Talk about the recruiting process and how challenging that was: "At the beginning it was real stressful because my mom didn't want to tell me what school she wanted me to go to. Then a couple of days before signing day she just started looking sad and she told me she wanted me to stay close to home. I told her she should've told me that to begin with."
On being a YouTube.com sensation after his story was shown from the inside by a Shreveport TV station: "I don't think my teammates know too much about that, so they haven't mentioned it too much to me."
On his relationship with Les Miles, which on the TV report seemed very strong: "What you saw on TV, that was Coach Miles 100 percent. Every time I came down to spend time with Coach Miles, he told me the same thing. He kept it real for me the whole process and that was important for me and my mom."
How quickly does he expect to play: "I'm working hard every day and giving it my all to turn (defensive line coach Brick Haley's) and (defensive coordinator John Chavis') heads to pay attention to what I can do. If I work hard and prove myself, I think I can contribute a lot this year."
