LSU – Drew Alleman 44 FG, 11:14. DRIVE: 6 plays-12 yards-2:35. KEY PLAYS: The Tigers offensive brain trust played it very close to the vest, keeping the ball on the ground five times for 12 yards. The drive nearly vanished when Spencer Ware coughed up the ball on an inside run, but he somehow smothered it himself. Three plays later, Alleman drilled the first field goal of his career with plenty of room to spare for the Tigers' initial points of the season. LSU 3, Oregon 0
OREGON – Rob Beard 29 FG, 3:55. DRIVE: 12-39-4:14. KEY PLAYS: Oregon's offense clicked for the first time, converting a pair of third downs to move quickly from midfield to the Tigers' 27-yard-line. Darron Thomas connected on 4-of-6 passes, including a nice 14-yard laser to David Paulson over the middle. LSU stiffened from the 15 to prompt the field goal. LSU 3, Oregon 3
OREGON – Rob Beard 30 FG, :42. DRIVE: 4-7-:30. KEY PLAYS: On a third-and-12 play, Tigers center P.J. Lonergan snapped the ball as Jarrett Lee was arranging his receivers and the ball squirted free to the 20, where Oregon linebacker Boseko Lokombo recovered. The Tigers' defense claimed a measure of victory by forcing the kick when the Ducks couldn't carve out a first down. Oregon 6, LSU 3
LSU – Tyrann Mathieu 3 fumble return (kick failed), 14:43. KEY PLAYS: Brad Wing boomed a 53-yard punt that Ducks' speedy return man Kenjon Barner fielded going backwards. Mathieu sprinted down and stripped the ball, scooped it up and took two steps into the end zone to give the Tigers the lead back, but Alleman shanked the extra point. LSU 9, Oregon 6
OREGON – LaMichael James 3 run (Beard kick), 5:16. DRIVE: 19-79-7:41. KEY PLAYS: Oregon converted four third downs and caught a huge break on a fifth when a pass for 12 yards on third-and-17 resulted in a personal foul penalty on Craig Loston that earned the Ducks a first down and put the ball at the 4-yard-line. Thomas dominated the series, connecting on 10-of-11 passes for 77 yards and went 5-for-5 on third-down throws for 45 yards. Oregon 13, LSU 9
LSU – Rueben Randle 10 pass from Lee (Alleman kick), :44. DRIVE: 12-75-4:26. KEY PLAYS: Just like Oregon, LSU saved its best offensive drive for right before halftime. Ware and Michael Ford took turns peppering the Ducks defense on the ground and combined for 39 rushing yards. Lee threw his best two passes of the opening 30 minutes – an 18-yard dart to DeAngelo Peterson on third-and-12 to keep the series clicking and the TD toss to Randle on a perfect back-shoulder-fade. LSU 16, Oregon 13
LSU – Ford 5 run (Alleman kick), 6:23. DRIVE: 5-21-1:48. KEY PLAYS: With Oregon trying to find an offensive foothold, Sam Montgomery thwarted that bid when he jarred the ball loose from DeAngelo Thomas on an inside counter run and Eric Reid scooped up the loose ball. Ware pounded away to move the ball to the Ducks' 5 and Ford powered in from there. LSU 23, Oregon 13
LSU – Ware 1 run (Alleman kick), 3:03. DRIVE: 6-41-3:20. KEY PLAYS: DeAngelo Thomas' night got worse when he coughed up the ball on the ensuing kickoff return and LSU's Ron Brooks pounced on it. Lee hooked up with Peterson for a 29-yard gain on a well-executed hot-read quick pass to get the Tigers close and Ware sealed the drive with a shifty dash on a toss sweep to the wide side. LSU 30, Oregon 13
LSU – Alleman 32 FG, 14:07. DRIVE: 8-33-3:25. KEY PLAYS: Mathieu's 14-yard punt return allowed LSU to set up just past midfield, and Ford blasted his way for a 20-yard gain to put the Tigers immediately into field-goal range. Ware produced another first down and Lee narrowly missed a TD pass to Odell Beckham Jr. to send Alleman out for his second kick. LSU 33, Oregon 13
OREGON – Josh Huff 8 pass from Darron Thomas, (Beard kick), 9:14. DRIVE: 13-68-4:47. KEY PLAYS: Forced into a corner, the Ducks responded with Darron Thomas finding the mark on 7-of-9 passes for 60 yards and rushing twice for 11 yards. LSU 33, Oregon 20
LSU – Ford 16 run, (Alleman kick), 2:52. DRIVE: 5-41-2:56. KEY PLAYS: With another short field after Oregon failed on third and fourth down to get a first down, the Tigers salted the game away behind Ware and Ford, who accounted for every inch of the short drive. LSU 40, Oregon 20
OREGON –De'Anthony Thomas 4 run, (Beard kick), :13. DRIVE: 11-70-2:34. KEY PLAYS: With the Tigers in cruise control, the Ducks kept chucking and got a chance to make their final numbers respectable as Darron Thomas added 58 passing yards to his total and LaMichael James busted his longest run of the day for 13 yards. LSU 40, Oregon 27
Final score: LSU 40, Oregon 27
Records: No. 4 LSU 1-0, No. 3 Oregon 0-1
Up next: The Tigers play their first and only home game of the season's first month when they entertain Northwestern State at 7 p.m. next Saturday. The Demons (1-0) eked out a 24-23 triumph against Delta State in their season opener.
