Woodlands speedster considers offers

The Woodlands may have the fastest running back in Texas for the Class of 2004 in Woodlands High School's Samson Taylor II.

The 6-foot, 205-pound speed demon runs a 4.3-second 40-yard dash and has been clocked at 10.5 in the 100-meter dash.

Taylor turned in a stellar performance at the Nike Combine at College Station, Texas, a couple of weeks ago after he posted a 4.34-forty yard dash, and was one of only five camp attendees that ran the pro shuttle in under 4 seconds flat.

Scholarship offers from Texas A&M, Northwestern, Houston and Colorado have rolled in for Taylor and so far Colorado has caught his eye out of that group.

"If I had to name a favorite it would be Colorado," Taylor told Tiger Rag. "It's a running school and they focus their offense around the running backs. Everybody else is about 50-50, but at Colorado you know you're going to get the ball."

With four offers and counting, Taylor knows there are many more to come.

"BYU called and said they will offer but they want to put it in writing," he said. "Arizona said they will offer and Baylor told my coach they are going to but they don't know when."

A few more schools to keep an eye on with Taylor are Miami, LSU, Texas, Florida State, Penn State and Notre Dame. None of these schools have offered yet but Taylor thinks there is a good chance they will before too long.

One school that may have an inside edge is LSU because of proximity and a close connection with some alumnus from The Woodlands.

"We have a lot of LSU grads from over here and they always come around," said Taylor. "I got invited to the South Carolina game last year and I went. It was great. It was so loud. I'm thinking about going to their camp but it depends on my schedule."

Is LSU a school Taylor is interested in?

"Most definitely," he said. "They (LSU) play a hard nose and exciting game, and they love to run the ball. They also have some of the best fans in the nation. Loud and loyal."
