5 for Friday

Shea Dixon gives you five things to watch for in the Louisiana prep ranks this weekend.

Something has to give
Haughton (5-0) vs. Byrd (5-0)
Haughton sent QB Dak Prescott to Mississippi State, but that hasn't slowed them this season – despite the jump from 4A to 5A. It's time to get district play going against Byrd, one of the hottest teams in the Shreveport area. At 5-0, Byrd already has statement wins over West Monroe and Marshall (Texas).

Note: Something has to give in District 1-5A. Haughton, Byrd and Parkway are all undefeated through five weeks.

Baton Rouge bragging rights
U-High (5-0) vs. Episcopal (5-0)
If you are in Baton Rouge for the Florida game weekend, get an eye on this showdown between local private schools. U-High is paced by 2015 RB Nicholas Brossette, and 2013 ATH Tristan Cooper – the son of LSU defensive backs coach Ron Cooper – can make a difference on both sides of the ball. Episcopal has a strong passing game, but they also have mismatches in DE Tylor Harris and TE Brian Bridgewater. Last weekend, Episcopal handled an undefeated Many with ease.

Note: Bridgewater, one of the state's top basketball prospects, is playing football for the first time.

The Trey Quinn Show
Barbe-Lake Charles (3-2) vs. Acadiana (4-1)
Barbe dropped a close one to an undefeated STM team, but sophomore WR Trey Quinn still left a big impression, scoring five touchdowns – three receiving and two rushing – and recording 335 yards on 16 catches. Acadiana will have to double-team Quinn, which could open things up for 2013 TE Desean Smith.

Note:Acadiana's only misstep thus far came in a 15-14 loss to undefeated St. Paul's.

If you are in New Orleans...
West Jefferson (5-0) vs. Brother Martin (4-1)
The marquee matchup in the New Orleans area features a pair of teams with college prospects on both sides of the football. For Brother Martin, watch 2013 OL Ryan Hoefeld and 2012 DE Julien Obioha, who is committed to Texas A&M. West Jefferson's biggest playmaker is 2013 ATH Ronald Lewis, but don't forget senior leaders like Patrick Bethley, who takes snaps on both side of the ball. This one should go down to the end.

Note:West Jefferson senior CB Sylvester Grimble shut down 2013 WR Rickey Jefferson in a 26-14 win over Destrehan in week four.

Another in the 504
McDonogh 35 (2-3) vs. O. P. Walker (2-1)
O.P. Walker has LSU 2012 commitment Dwayne Thomas, arguably the state's top cornerback. That's always worth paying attention to. Just don't sleep on QB Devin Powell, who is having a solid senior campaign despite an unorthodox schedule to start the season. For McDonogh 35, 2013 OL Kenneth Santa Maria will look to open up the holes for 2013 RB Charles Henderson, one of the best scat backs in the state.

Note: Powell helped spark O.P. Walker to a 44-6 win over West St. John last weekend – which followed a two-week stretch where the Chargers didn't play a game.
