Lady Tigers ranked 24th by TSN

1st-year coach Nikki Caldwell welcomes back 10 letterwinners

From LSU media relations

The LSU women's basketball team under first-year coach Nikki Caldwell is ranked 24th in the Sporting News College Basketball Preview magazine that is on newsstands now.

The Lady Tigers are one of four SEC teams in the Top 25 poll joining Tennessee (4), Georgia (15) and Kentucky (18).

LSU will play two non-conference teams at home in the poll. Eighth-ranked Georgetown comes to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for the home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. The Lady Tigers take on No. 22 UCLA – Caldwell's former team – on Dec.13.

After missing the NCAA Tournament last season, LSU returns 10 letterwinners and five seniors headlined by All-SEC forward LaSondra Barrett.

Caldwell, who comes to LSU after three seasons at UCLA, promises to bring an exciting style of basketball to the PMAC. The Lady Tigers opened practice last week and have been featuring up-tempo play with early offense and pressure defense.

Wednesday's practice from 1-2:30 p.m. is open to the public.

Season tickets for the 2011-12 season are on sale starting as low as $50. Tickets can be ordered online or by calling the LSU Athletic Ticket Office at (225) 578-2184.
