Basketball gets verbal from JUCO player

Newspaper reports say the LSU basketball team has received a verbal commitment from Jaime Lloreda, a 6-foot-8, 225-pound power forward from Dixie Junior College in St. George, Utah. Originally from Panama, Lloreda played at Berkshire High School in Homestead, Fla., he is expected to sign a letter of intent this fall to join the Tigers for the 2002-2003 season.

Jaime Lloreda (pronounced HI-me yor-AY-duh) averaged 16 points and nine rebounds last season at Dixie and was a member of the All-Scenic West Athletic Conference team. In his senior year at Berkshire - his only year on the team - Lloreda averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds. Louisville, Miami and Colorado recruited him out of high school, and he signed with Colorado before academics forced him to head to the junior college.

The list of schools interested in Lloreda grew after two seasons at Dixie, and they included Kentucky, Mississippi State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, North Carolina and Louisville, according Lloreda's high school coach.
