Three Tigers named to watch lists

Three LSU football players have been named to preseason watch lists for national awards heading into the 2003 season.

Corey Webster, a senior cornerback, is one of 36 players named to the Bronko Nagurski watch list, the Charlotte Touchdown Club announced. The Nagurski Award is presented annually to the nation's top all-around defensive player.

Last year, Webster earned First Team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2002 after leading the league with seven interceptions, including a school-record tying three interceptions in LSU's 36-7 win over Florida in Gainesville.

Stephen Peterman, also a first team all-conference selection in 2002, is among 41 players list on the preliminary watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award, the Rotary Club of Houston announced. The Lombardi Award is presented annually to the nation's top offensive or defensive lineman. Peterman, a senior from Waveland, Miss., has also been tabbed as the nation's No. 1 rated offensive guard heading into the 2003 season by The Sporting News.

LSU junior center Ben Wilkerson is among 29 players on the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy. The Rimington Trophy is presented each year to the nation's top center.
