SCORING RECAP: LSU 45, Auburn 10

How LSU and Auburn put points on the scoreboard Saturday in the most lopsided game in series history

SCORING RECAP

First quarter

LSU – Kenny Hilliard 9 run (Drew Alleman kick), 11:13. DRIVE:  8 plays-76 yards-3:47. KEY PLAYS: Jarrett Lee and Odell Beckham Jr. flipped the field with a 23-yard hookup and Lee zipped back-to-back passes to Rueben Randle for 14 more yards. From the 28, three running plays gobbled up the rest of the distance, with the help of a facemask penalty on Auburn, punctuated by Hilliard’s first career TD. LSU 7, Auburn 0

AUBURN – Cody Parkey 42 FG, 1:26. DRIVE:  9-41-3:35. KEY PLAYS: Onterrio McCalebb found some room to roam on a toss play for 20 yards and LSU exacerbated matters with a personal foul when Eric Reid dragged him down out of bounds. On the next snap, McCalleb slashed 10 more yards on a reverse. Auburn nearly scored on the next play, but Ron Brooks batted down Kiehl Frazier’s pass to Travante Stallworth in the end zone. Clint Moseley hooked up with DeAngelo Benton for 12 yards to the LSU 9-yard-line, but AU went backwards from there when Barkevious Mingo sacked him on second down and Derrick Bryant got him again on a safety blitz on third down to force the kick. LSU 7, Auburn 3

Second quarter

Rueben Randle

LSU – Randle 42 pass from Jordan Jefferson (Alleman kick), 5:00. DRIVE:  3-60-1:57. KEY PLAYS: LSU survived a bobbled snap on second down when Auburn was flagged for a facemask and two plays later, Jefferson stood tall under pressure and whipped a perfect on-the-money to throw to Randle running in stride down the right sideline. LSU 14, Auburn 3

LSU – Randle 46 pass from Lee (Alleman kick), :40. DRIVE:  8-86-2:26. KEY PLAYS: In an almost carbon copy of the Jefferson pass, Lee capped a drive that coughed and sputtered along until a defensive pass interference gave LSU a second chance from the AU 48. On third down, Lee took a shotgun snap and floated a perfect throw to Randle, who had beaten double coverage again. LSU 21, Auburn 3

Third quarter

Russell Shepard

LSU – Russell Shepard 10 pass from Lee (Alleman kick), 9:51. DRIVE:  6-74-3:10. KEY PLAYS: Any confidence the Auburn defense might’ve had carried from the first half was mashed as LSU churned downfield like a knife through butter. Lee rifled a 27-yard pass to Chase Clement, Michael Ford blasted for 23, 8 and then 4 yards and the swing pass to Shepard ended with a dive to the pylon after a nifty shimmy and an official review. LSU 28, Auburn 3

LSU – Hilliard 1 run (Alleman kick), 8:12. DRIVE:  4-22-1:30. KEY PLAYS: Reid jackhammered kickoff returner Tre Mason and forced a fumble that Tahj Jones smothered. Following a holding penalty that pushed LSU back to the 31, Hilliard broke off a 25-yard run on a fake toss, inside handoff to the fullback and then blasted 5 yards to the 1 before soaring over the goal line on second down. LSU 35, Auburn 3

Ron Brooks

LSU – Brooks 28 interception return (Alleman kick), 7:27. KEY PLAYS: With Auburn pinned deep after another vicious tackle on a kickoff, Moseley tried to get the offense revved up with a throw to Benton on a square-out to the left side. Brooks jumped the route, shrugged off a tackle right after his catch and sprinted to the end zone for LSU’s third touchdown in 2:24. LSU 35, Auburn 3

Fourth quarter

LSU – Alleman 36 FG, 13:56. KEY PLAYS: Lee and Clement hooked up for 13 yards on third-and-11. Ford bolted 10 yards on a sprint draw and then 14 on an option pitch to get LSU into field-goal range. When the drive stalled, Alleman tacked on three points. LSU 45, Auburn 3

AUBURN – McCalebb 2 run (Parkey kick), 2:22. DRIVE:  10-86-5:51. KEY PLAYS: Auburn finally generated a sustained drive, with backup quarterback Kiehl Frazier carrying four times for 28 yards, Michael Dyer carving out 29 yards and Moseley hitting three passes for 24 yards. LSU 45, Auburn 10

Final score:  LSU 45, Auburn 10

Records:  No. 1 LSU 8-0, 5-0 SEC; No. 19 Auburn 5-3, 3-2

Attendance: 93,098 (second largest in stadium history)
