Stock rising for Houston DT

Eric Mikolajchak is one of the top defensive tackles in the Houston area for the Class of 2004 and colleges are starting to treat him like one.

"I'm expecting an offer from Kansas any day and Colorado said they would probably offer in June," said the big 6-foot-4, 310-pounder from Mayde Creek High School. "Iowa State is also real interested."

Who else is in the picture?

"Texas A&M, Ohio State, Iowa, Texas, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, Miami and LSU," Mikolajchak told Tiger Rag. "I want a school that is committed to winning and getting better each year. I also look for the atmosphere around the team. All of those teams have that."

A switch to the offensive line could be Mikolajchak's destiny but he put up some pretty impressive numbers on defense last year to state his case. He was a unanimous first team All-District selection with 75 tackles, 5 sacks and 12 tackles for a loss.

As he heads to his summer camps at Texas A&M and Texas, Mikolajchak is ranked No. 43 on Inside Texas' Pre-season Top 100 with hopes up moving up the charts. He will have a lot more on his mind than just learning new drills when he goes to A&M because Dennis Franchione's crew is near the top of his list.

"Right now it's still early but one of my top schools would be Texas A&M because they are going to be one of the top teams for years to come," said Mikolajchak. "They're really getting some good players."

What about LSU?

"LSU is up there," he said. "They are going to be really good next year with that freshman class coming in. I've heard that is a great school to go to."
