Stock rising for Belle Chasse LB

The list of linebackers in Louisiana for the Class of 2004 is very deep and talented.

One who is getting lots of attention from college coaches with connections to the Bayou State is Belle Chasse star Tim Riddick (6-3, 225, 4.6).

Riddick, an outside linebacker, totaled 112 tackles and five sacks as a junior, and earned first team All-Metro, All-District and second team All-State recognition.

LSU, West Virginia, Auburn and Louisiana Tech are the big players for Riddick. But when asked if any of those schools stand out, he replied, "One does."

"LSU," Riddick told Tiger Rag. "I visited up there and really like the campus. They have a lot of people who can help me in school to make sure I'm straight with my grades."

Who would be second if the Tigers chose not to extend an offer?

"West Virginia," Riddick said. "They are recruiting me real hard. I'm supposed to go up there to visit their campus and I'm excited about that."

Riddick's summer camp plans include stops at LSU, West Virginia and Louisiana Tech. Through his visits, he hopes he can find out a little more about the schools that want him.

Although none have offered Riddick a scholarship up to this point, that could change very quickly once these schools get a closer look at him.

One thing Riddick is looking for is a deep pool of talent that will complement his abilities, and he says that is why LSU is his leader. The Tigers have landed two of the top signing classes in the country over the last three years and Riddick said he believes big things lie ahead for Nick Saban's program.

"It makes me feel like I'm really a good player if they (LSU) want me," he said. "Knowing the players they have will make me work harder when I get to college. I want to be around other good players because it will only make me get better."
