Fehoko Fanaika chooses LSU

JUCO offensive lineman Fehoko Fanaika gave LSU's offensive line a welcome addition when he signed with the SEC powerhouse.

LSU reached out to the west coast today when head coach Les Milesinked Fehoko Fanaika out of the College of San Mateo in California.

"He's a Tiger," said San Mateo assistant coach head Tim Tulloch, who also serves as the program's defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator.

What does Fanaika bring to the table?

"He's very intelligent," said Tulloch. "He's very football smart and a big dude. He's 6-foot-6 and 360 pounds right now, and is very athletic for his size.

"He's only scratched the surface of his potential, and he is a first-team All-American in the best JUCO conference in the nation. He did a phenomenal job for us."

Why did Fanaika choose LSU?

"It was the right place for him," said Tulloch. "He's very excited about the opportunity to play for Coach (Greg) Studrawa (offensive line coach).

"He was really torn between LSU and Florida and Hawaii for awhile. He loved Florida. He also loved Hawaii, and he didn't know what to expect from LSU at first, but he felt at home at LSU. They did a great job of recruiting him."

Fanaika's skill set seems ideal for SEC football.

"It's power football," said Tulloch. "He's a physical guy who gets off the ball. He demolished an opponent this year that was a USC signee, so he's played against good competition. He gets after it and is going to drive you down the field."
