Some notes on Shane Hammink
A couple of notes on Shane Hammink, the 6-foot-6 guard who signed with LSU on Monday from the Canarias Basketball Academy web site.
CBA coach Rob Orellana, a longtime assistant coach in the U.S' said "LSU is a great choice for Shane. They play an up-tempo style both offensively and defensively which suits Shane perfectly. This is a great accomplishment for Shane earning a full scholarship at LSU as he has been a tireless and dedicated worker both on the court and in the classroom."
Hammink is listed as one of the most promising rising stars of the Netherlands. He is a left-handed combo guard who thrives at getting in the lane and facilitating for others in either screen-and-roll sets, or by breaking his man down off the dribble. He is strong enough to finish through contact at the rim and also shows a solid stroke from the 3-point line. A relative unknown in the U.S., Hammink is a high major guard who has the caliber to be a major contributor at backcourt sports at both ends of the floor.
During his final season at CBA, Hammink was named the Best Defensive Player at the 2012 Nike Euroleague International Junior Classification Tournament in Kaunas, Lithuania, and earlier this month was named the MVP at the 2012 U-23 Tournament in Tourcoing, France, where his team played against a team made of U.S. college players.
