- The Beavers are in the NCAA Tournament
for the 13th time and the fourth year in a row. OSU is 39-24 in
those appearances, with Pat Casey-coached teams accounting for 34 of those
wins. The pinnacle was back-to-back national championships in 2006-07, the
second after narrowly making the field.
- Oregon State has gone eight games in a row
without committing an error and enters Saturday’s game fielding at a .982 clip,
best among the four teams at the regional.
- The Beavers’ pitching trio of Dan Child
(Saturday starter), Ben Wetzler and Jace Frye started 29 of 30 Pac-12 games and
logged 199.2 innings with 18 quality starts and a 12-7 record. Those three are
among the seven OSU pitchers who have been selected in the Major League
- Freshman DH Michael Conforto leads the Pac-12
with 71 RBIs and is tied for the league lead with 13 home runs. He chased in 36
runs in league play. His father, Mike Conforto, played football at Penn State.
- After Friday’s 2-1 triumph against
Belmont, OSU is 10-8 in one-run games this season. That was the 13th game this season the Beavers held a foe to two runs or fewer, including three
- Oregon State’s roster has a definite Northwest
flavor, with 10 native Oregonians and 9 Washingtonians among the 35 players.
- The Beavers’ three hits against Belmont
were their second fewest in a game this season. They managed only two in a 4-0
loss at UCLA on April 20. The two runs were also the fewest in a win for OSU.
- Casey was a leading candidate to replace LSU coach Paul Mainieri at Notre Dame after Mainieri accepted the Tigers’ job.
