Rhymes, Gausman earn NCBWA All-American nods

LSU outfielder is first-team All-American, pitcher nabs second-team spot.

OMAHA, Neb. – LSU junior Raph Rhymes landed a spot on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American first team and sophomore pitcher Kevin Gausman was voted to the second team.

Rhymes leads the country with a .431 batting average and was LSU’s RBI leader with 53. He spent three weeks midseason hovering around .500 before a late swoon.

Gausman finished 12-2 with 135 strikeouts and a 2.77 ERA as the Tigers’ ace. He led the SEC in wins and Ks.

Rhymes is a finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, one of the major national awards. The winner will be revealed at 11 a.m. Friday.
