Sixers nab LSU's Justin Hamilton

Former Tigers 7-footer is taken with the 45th pick and then traded to the Heat.

PHILADELPHIA — The 76ers selected LSU center Justin Hamilton with the 45th pick in the NBA draft Thursday night.

Hamilton's rights will be sent to the NBA-champion Miami Heat along with a future first-round pick for the rights to Mississippi State forward Arnett Moultrie, who was taken at No. 27.

The 7-foot, 260-pound Hamilton, spent two seasons at LSU after transferring from Iowa State as a sophomore. After sitting out the 2010-11 season as a transfer, he started 32 of 33 games for LSU last season, averaging 12.9 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and was named a second-team All-SEC selection.

With Hamilton's selection, the Tigers have had a player taken in the draft in six of the last eight seasons. Hamilton is the first to be selected since Marcus Thornton in 2009.
