Wing and Alleman join awards parade

LSU punter & kicker add to presence on pre-season watch lists.

Not to be left out of the pre-season award watch list parade, LSU's two special teams ringleaders earned their recognition Wednesday. Sophomore punter Brad Wing was named to the Ray Guy Award preseason watch list, and senior kicker Drew Alleman nabbed a spot on the Lou Groza Award watch list.

Wing was a 2011 semifinalist for the Guy award that honors the nation's top collegiate punter, and he is one of 25 players named to this year's initial watch list, the first time a Tiger has been on the pre-season list since Chris Jackson in 2006.

Brad Wing

As a redshirt freshman last season, Wing averaged 44.4 yards a punt on the way to earning First-Team All-American honors from the AP,, and Sports Illustrated.

Last season his 44.4-yard per punt average ranked second in the SEC and 11th nationally, and it represents the fourth-best single season average in LSU history. In addition, Wing showed fantastic accuracy as he placed 27 of his 59 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line, including 13 punts inside the 10-yard line, with only five touchbacks.

Alleman is one of 30 players around the country named to the watch list for the Groza Award. He was a 2011 semifinalist for the award and was named a Lou Groza Star of the Week twice last season after helping LSU secure wins at Mississippi State and at Alabama.

The Lafayette native enters the 2012 season as the most accurate kicker in school history with a field-goal percentage of .889 after making 16 of 18 field goals a year ago. Alleman also enters his senior campaign with a streak of 10 straight made field goal attempts.
