Thomas camps with Tigers, Tide

'15 OT Garrett Thomas from Many is drawing early attention from both LSU and Alabama. The 6-foot-6, 290-pounder camped with both the Tigers and the Crimson Tide this month, and talked with Thomas to get his reaction.

Many High School head coach Jess Curtis is turning to the power running game this fall behind a big offensive line anchored by sophomores Garrett Thomas and Hunter Dubois and senior Ivy Jackson.

Coaches from LSU and Alabama made the trip to Sabine Parish this spring to talk with Curtis about Thomas, who recently camped in Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa, Ala.

"LSU went good," said Thomas. "It was a really good camp. I like that school. I've always been an LSU fan and liked the school.

"LSU and Alabama are really my two favorites. I like both the same. Louisiana Tech and ULM are also showing interest."

Many sent tight end Nic Jacobs to LSU a few years ago.

"I know Nic, but I don't really know him all that well," said Thomas. "I looked up to him when he was playing at Many."

Thomas was at LSU's OL/DL camp. He followed up with a trip to Alabama.

"The coaches were great," he said of the Crimson Tide staff. "I really enjoyed it. I was really impressed with Coach (Jeff) Stoutland. He gave me great help with offensive line techniques that will help me personally."

Many went 7-4 last year and lost to Homer in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs, 36-21.

"We should have a really good team," Thomas said. "We have a new offensive coordinator (Tommy Hall) who coached (former LSU offensive line great) Ben Wilkerson at Hemphill (Texas).

"Everything is working well for us as a team."

Many faces the Oakdale Warriors in Week one next month.
