JUCO DT commits to LSU

LSU added its eighth commitment for the 2004 recruiting class when junior college prospect Claude Wroten gave Nick Saban a verbal pledge on Monday.

The 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive tackle from Mississippi Delta Community College always wanted to attend LSU and he turned down offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami and Mississippi State to fulfill a longtime dream.

"He has good athleticism for a kid with his size," said Delta assistant coach Cedric Thomas. "He can go sideline to sideline. He can dominate the line because of his strength and he has good speed for someone his size. He has a good mental aspect for a kid his age that gives him an advantage over offensive linemen."

Wroten, a Bastrop High School product, is on schedule to graduate in December so he would be able to compete in spring practice. Saban is known for signing kids with good character and Wroten is in that same mold.

"He is a great kid," Thomas told Tiger Rag. "He's a 'Yes sir - No sir type.' He's real positive and provides a great atmosphere whenever he is around."
