Lewis Neal Important in Landing Greg Gilmore

2013 commit Lewis Neal might just be the biggest selling point LSU has in trying to lure one of its biggest targets to Baton Rouge.

Lewis Neal had already been to Baton Rouge once before coming down for last weekend's game against Alabama.

So his second time through wasn't about taking tours of campus or examining the athletic facilities. It was all about one thing.

"I just had fun," said the three-star LSU commit. "That's all I did. I hung out with the players a little bit, played in the players' lounge, ate a lot. I just hung out and had fun."

Neal also got the opportunity to spend quality time with the coaches and his future teammates. He spent most of his day playing pool and video games inside the football complex, and in between all that, caught a pretty good football game.

"It was unbelievable," Neal said. "I had so much fun. It was crazy. There's no way to describe it. I can't think of a better way to put it…The Virginia Tech and Miami game was loud, but this game was louder. I just loved everything about it."

Neal spent most of his visit with fellow North Carolina native Greg Gilmore, the eighth-ranked defensive tackle and one of the top uncommitted players left on LSU's board. Living a little more than 80 miles apart, Neal and Gilmore have developed a relationship playing in the same high school all-star games.

The two got the opportunity to build on that friendship in Baton Rouge, something that could prove beneficial for LSU in landing Gilmore's commitment. Part of Gilmore's mother's concern with LSU was it's distance from home, and how Gilmore would be taken care of.

Having someone like Neal could prove reassuring in that aspect, and Neal made a point to encourage Gilmore to join him in Baton Rouge.

"We're close," Neal said. "I tried [to convince him]. We'll see Thursday though. That's when we'll find out."

Gilmore will announce his decision Thursday on ESPN.

As for the next time Neal plans to return to Lousiana:

"I don't know for sure yet," he said. "But I know I'll be back in June."
