For Marcos de Niza High School standout Priest Willis, this fall has been one to remember. With his team riding a 10-1 record into the playoffs, the 2013 five-star cornerback has put his recruitment on hold to focus on his high school squad. Willis, who has 52 tackles and one interception on the season, understands that this is his last chance to enjoy the high school scene before moving onto the collegiate gridiron, so he is soaking it up as much as possible.
"Everything has been really mellow as far as recruiting," said the 6-2 190-pound prospect. "I'm just focused on my season because we are in the playoffs. This season has been great. That's the most important thing right now. Recruiting hasn't really been a big part of everything this fall so far."
Willis had originally planned on using one of his five official visits to visit LSU last weekend when the Tigers took on Alabama. While he decided to cancel his visit, Willis does plan to visit LSU in the near future, and a couple of very important guests will be tagging along.
"I'm definitely planning on rescheduling the visit," explained Willis. "I'm still not sure when exactly it will be. I'll probably visit after my season so I can stay focused on my team right now. My parents are going to be coming with me and that's big because they will be able to see what I'm seeing and some of the things I already know about LSU."
With the playoffs beginning to heat up for his high school squad, Willis hopes that he will get the chance to focus on his season. One school is giving him that chance and he has taken notice.
"I keep in contact with LSU on a pretty regular basis," said Willis. "They understand that I want to just focus on my high school season right now so that's nice."
While Willis admitted to not watching much of the Alabama-LSU matchup, he does know that the result of the game will have no impact on his viewpoint of LSU.
"The loss doesn't affect me at all," said Willis. "A loss doesn't determine if I like them or not. It would be the defense that I would be playing with and they played great. So, a loss won't affect any decision I will make."
Aside from LSU, Willis also plans to visit Florida, Florida State and Virginia this fall. While he wouldn't go as far as naming a leader, he does plan on really narrowing things down as soon as his high school season concludes.
"I don't have a leader or a top list, but I will definitely figure all of that out after the season," said Willis. "I will probably name a leader as soon as my season has ended. In terms of making a decision, I'm just kind of going with however I feel. I don't want to rush into it so I will just make my decision when it feels right."
