For Timberview High School (Arlington, TX) standout Edward Paris, the recruiting process is beginning to pick up steam. The four-star defensive back prospect for the Class of 2014 has collected numerous scholarship offers so far.
The 6-1 190-pound corner explained that the offers have motivated him to get better this offseason, something that he has already started working on with his high school season over. Aside from becoming a better player, Paris explained that he is focusing on recruiting now, and everything is going as planned for the rising senior.
"It's going really well," said Paris, when asked about the recruiting process. "I got a Florida offer about a week ago, so I'll have to go check them out. It's all starting to pick up a lot since the offseason is here now."
One school that caught the attention of Paris early in his career was LSU. The Tigers sent out an early offer to Paris and two coaches have been able to build a pretty good relationship with the Mansfield, Tex., native.
"Coach [Corey] Raymond and Coach [Frank] Wilson have been recruiting me to LSU," said Paris. "They want me to play the outside corner there and cover the big guys for them. They want me to come in and dominate for them. Pretty much all schools are saying that and I'm looking at everybody right now.
"It's a really good relationship that I have with those guys. We talk about life a lot. Not so much football in every conversation, but that's a good thing."
With the recruiting process starting so early for Paris, he has had a chance to visit several schools so far in the process. While Paris says that every school is recruiting him the way that LSU is, there was one thing that stood out about his visit to Baton Rouge that he had yet to experience on a college visit before.
"I visited TCU, Texas Tech, Texas, Alabama, of course LSU, and Texas A&M," said Paris. "The tailgating at LSU really stood out, among other things. I hadn't really ever been around the tailgating there before, so it was cool. I was there for the Alabama game."
With so many recruits reacting to the press conference featuring LSU's Les Miles after the team's victory over Ole Miss, Paris explained that he had a very positive reaction when he heard about it.
"I didn't see it, but I heard about it," said Paris. "I liked what I heard about it. It's always good when a coach does that because it makes you feel good as a player. That's just good coaching and I loved it."
Paris has a very unique opportunity for college visits presented to him by his competitive 7-on-7 team. He explained that being on the team allows him great exposure, as well as a great chance to see some of the schools he is interested in, something he plans on taking advantage of this offseason.
"Yeah, I'm going to visit a lot of schools this offseason, but I‘m not exactly sure which ones yet," said Paris. "I play on an elite 7-on-7 team and I think we are all visiting Florida soon. We have a bunch of elite kids on the team because of the exposure that we get on that team."
Paris also added that he has not narrowed down his list of college suitors at this point. He plans to start that process after he sees more of the schools that have sent out offers to him.
