LSU beats Chattanooga 80-67

Johnny Jones' Tigers hit the hardwood for the first time in 12 days Tuesday night, defeating the Mocs after leading by 12 at half. Johnny O'Bryant and Andre Stringer led the way with 18 points apiece.

LSU ran its record to 6-0 Tuesday after defeating the Chattanooga Mocs 80-67.

Andre Stringer, who started and filled in for Anthony Hickey at point guard, finished with 18 points, four assists and three steals.

Johnny O'Bryant also chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds, notching his third straight double-double. He's the first Tiger to accomplish the feat since Storm Warren in December 2009.

Agter the game coach Johnny Jokes spoke about the win and updated the injury situation of senior Charles Carmouche.

After a long 12-day hiatus from games to concentrate on final exams, the LSU basketball team will be back on the floor Tuesday night, welcoming in the Chattanooga Mocs.

LSU (5-0) last played on Nov. 29, topping Seton Hall 72-67 in a come-from-behind effort in the SEC/Big East Challenge.

The Tigers will begin life without Anthony Hickey Tuesday after the team's starting sophomore point guard was suspended indefinitely by first-year coach Johnny Jones on Friday afternoon.

This will also mark LSU's sixth straight game at home to open up the 2012-13 season. The Tigers will travel to Boise State (Dec. 14), UC-Irvine (Dec. 18) and Marquette (Dec. 22) after tonight's game before returning home to take on Houston Baptist three days after Christmas.

Chattanooga (2-6, 0-1 in SoCon) enters tonight's contest losers of two in a row since winning on the road at Kennesaw State 65-51 on Nov. 24.

Perhaps the most noteworthy moment of the Mocs' season to date came in a loss. John Shulman's crew led Kansas in Lawrence by double digits early in the second half before ultimately falling 69-55.

Here is a look at tonight's projected starting lineups.

NOTE: For LSU, it is likely that Andre Stringer and even Charles Carmouche will absorb some minutes at the point even though freshman Corban Collins will get the official start at the one for the Tigers.

LSU (5-0)
G Corban Collins (Fr., 6-3) - 2.2 ppg, 1.2 rpg
G Charles Carmouche (Sr., 6-4) - 9.6 ppg, 2.6 apg
F Shane Hammink (Fr., 6-7) - 6.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg
F Johnny O'Bryant (So., 6-9) - 12.5 ppg, 8.8 rpg
C Andrew Del Piero* (Sr., 7-3) - 4.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg

* = Del Piero is likely to get the start, but if he doesn't - and the Tigers go smaller - look for F Shavon Coleman (team-leading 17.4 ppg) to be in the first five for LSU.

Chattanooga (2-6)
G Ronrico White (So., 6-3) - 8.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg
G Gee McGhee (Fr., 6-5) - 9.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg
G Casey Jones (Fr., 6-5) - 4.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg
F Z. Mason (Jr., 6-5) - 11.0 ppg, 7.1 rpg
F Drazen Zlovaric (Sr., 6-9) - 9.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg

PREGAME UPDATE (6:50 p.m.): The starting five for LSU is Andre Stringer, Charles Carmouche, Malik Morgan, Johnny O'Bryant and Andrew Del Piero.

So Collins will come off the bench. As will Hammink, out for Morgan in a freshman-for-freshman swap.
