Tigers drop close one at Kentucky

Anthony Hickey and Johnny O'Bryant kept LSU close late at Kentucky, but the Tigers couldn't pull off the win, falling 75-70. Come inside for the latest with TSD.

Despite closing strong, LSU couldn't outlast Kentucky.

The home-standing Wildcats held the Tigers off to win 75-70 on the strength of 20 points and 12 rebounds from Alex Poythress.

Kentucky (13-6, 4-2) gets back in the win column after its setback in Tuscaloosa.

Johnny Jones' Tigers fall to 10-7 overall, 1-5 in SEC play, coming up on the wrong end of a game that was still in the balance with 3.1 seconds to go.

At that point LSU point guard Anthony Hickey, who finished with 15 points and numerous big threes down the stretch, missed the front end of a one-and-one with the Tigers down three and ended the visiting team's chances of a comeback.

Johnny O'Bryant led LSU with 21 points on 9-of-22 shooting to go with 12 boards. Andre Stringer also chipped in with 13 points.

The Tigers will be back in action Wednesday night at home when ranked Missouri comes to town.
