For most, National Signing Day is a dream true, the culmination of years of hard work to pay off with an ultimate reward.
For Lewis Neal though, NSD serves as one stepping stone on a road to bigger dreams and bigger rewards.
"It's a great feeling. It's finally here. It's crazy," Neal said. "This is one of the most important moments of life…But I've got plenty more dreams to come true. I'm not there yet. I promise…This is one more step."
Neal will sign his National Letter of Intent at noon (CST) in the gymnasium at his high school. He will be accompanied by friends, family, students and coaches, and Neal said he's been humbled by the amount of people that want to share in this moment with him.
"It's not like it's a pep rally," Neal said. "It's crazy that all these people want to come there to see me do this. I'm glad I have that much support, and I'm thankful for all of that."
Since the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in December, Neal has continued to work in preparation for his arrival at LSU. He said he recently weighed in at 245 pounds, an ideal weight for him with minimal body fat.
He underwent a minor procedure on his knee in January, and said he's healed as expected from that. He said the next few months after NSD have even more workouts in store for him, and he'll receive his official workout plan from Tommy Moffitt after he signs.
"I'm going to be working hard, getting my body ready for summer workouts," Neal said. "Just working my tail off…I'm just trying to get all my numbers up, so when I get on that field, everything will be easy…
"I'm going to try to keep my body in the shape that it is in now, and continue to get bigger, faster, stronger. When I get to LSU, they're going to multiply it by 10. I'm going to be the first one in the weight room and the last one out."
Once he arrives in Baton Rouge for good, Neal will be a long way from his home in North Carolina. And though he said he expects some home sickness at first, he fully plans to make a new home at LSU.
"It's going to be a different feeling during my first week of college because I'm going to be in a completely different area," Neal said. "But at the same time I know I have support in Louisiana too. It's like a family down there. I'm going to get used to it very quickly."
