Heading into his first visit to LSU, class of 2014 quarterback Jeremy Jones was relatively unknown to those in the world of recruiting. Following LSU's first national junior day, Jones is one prospect to keep an eye on in the coming months.
The 6-5 190 pound Jones made the trip to Baton Rouge from his hometown of San Antonio, TX. For Jones, the visit was more than he expected, given that he had not spoken to the LSU staff before Saturday.
"The visit went really well," said Jones. "It exceeded my expectations because I hadn't had any contact with the coaches from LSU yet. My coach had talked to them. It was just great to get to meet all of them and hear what they have planned."
LSU hosted over 200 prospects on campus on Saturday. Because of that not all them had a chance to meet with the coaching staff, something Jones was fortunate enough to get to do.
"There were a lot of people down there," said Jones. "I only saw about ten people that got to talk to Coach [Les] Miles. A couple of those were commits, so I'm excited that I got to meet with him."
While not many players got to meet with the LSU staff, Jones explained that he was lucky enough to not only speak with the staff, but also hear what they have planned for the quarterback position for the class of 2014.
"Coach Miles was just talking about how they are only taking one quarterback in my class," said Jones. "They are only recruiting dual threat guys at my position for next year. He thinks I can be that guy for him."
Jones also received word from Miles that an official offer from the Tigers could come through as early as this summer.
"He said to consider myself offered, but he wants me to come to camp to work out with Coach [Cam] Cameron to make it official," said Jones. "We also talked about academics."
After LSU named Cam Cameron to the offensive coordinator position this week, Jones explained that he was anxious to get to speak with him on his visit.
During his time with Cameron, Jones got somewhat of an idea of what the LSU offense will look like in the future.
"He was talking about his plans for the program and for me if I were to end up there," said Jones. "He said they would have somewhat of a spread look with the I-formation because it's the SEC. He said if I come to their spring game, he won't really show a whole lot, but he'll give people a taste, especially if it isn't on national television."
Following his first visit to the Baton Rouge campus, Jones explained that multiple return trips to LSU are already in his plans for the near future.
"I'm either going to come down for a spring practice or the spring game," said Jones. "This summer, I'm probably going to make it to both camps. If they make it official at the first one, I might not have to come back."
Even though there is some uncertainty on whether or not Jones will receive an official offer from LSU in the future, the East Central High School standout explained that he would make his college choice quickly if the Tigers were to offer.
"They are the only school that I would commit to pretty quickly," said Jones. "I would pull the trigger if they gave me an official offer."
Aside from LSU, Jones also plans to visit several schools around the country in the coming months.
"I'm supposed to go to Baylor on March 23rd and Rice some time in March," said Jones. "Oklahoma State invited me to their spring practices along with TCU. I'll probably try to see some of them. I'm also going to try to visit Rutgers because they are close to offering as well."
