Rhaheed shocked by LSU offer

Sharieff Rhaheed's recruitment has picked up lately. LSU was one of many schools that have jumped on board with an offer in the last couple weeks. What does Rhaheed think about the Tigers at this point?

LSU made last Saturday a big day at Fort Pierce (FL) Central High School.

The Tigers extended offers to two prospects — Rashawn Shaw and Sharieff Rhaheed. Both said they've been in contact with LSU for quite some time, but Rhaheed added he still wasn't expecting an offer to come.

"I was shocked and surprised, but I was happy that I got it," Rhaheed said. "I'd been getting letters from them since my sophomore year…I know a lot about them."

Getting offered at the same time as his teammate made it all the more better.

"It felt good because I know I can go somewhere with someone I already know," Rhaheed said. "And it's also good that he's doing big things too…We have offers together, but we haven't talked about playing together yet. I'm sure it's going to come up soon."

Rhaheed plays a hybrid linebacker-defensive end role in his team's 3-4 scheme. So he has experience rushing the passer both standing and on his hands, a trait that will certainly make a versatile option on the next level.

"I play an outside linebacker, defensive end combo…[LSU is] recruiting me as a linebacker, but they said if I gain some weight they'll put me on the defensive line."

Rhaheed has good size and speed, measure 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, and said he's been clocked having a 4.72-second 40-yard dash. He's kept an eye on how LSU operates on defense and hopes his skillset translates well into what John Chavis likes to do.

"I think I'd fit into their defense pretty good," Rhaheed said. "People say I have a good motor, good bend and that I'm long."

It's still relatively early in the recruiting process for Rhaheed, but he does hold six offers at this point — LSU, Ole Miss, Penn State, South Florida, Louisville and Massachusetts. He didn't name a leader but mentioned LSU and another SEC rival as schools that are standing out.

"I haven't thought about that too much, but I've been talking a lot with Ole Miss," Rhaheed said.

On what he's looking for in a school…

"Just a place where I can fit in with an exciting atmosphere," Rhaheed said.

Rhaheed said he's never been to Louisiana before, but said he'd like to make a trip for the Spring Game or summer camp. As for the rest of his visit plans…

"I want to go on a college tour along the East Coast," Rhaheed said. "With all the schools I want to visit, I just have to find some time that's best for me."
