Miles Presser Tidbits

Les Miles gave a comprehensive update on his football team Wednesday in advance of spring practice kicking off tomorrow. Come inside with TSD for Miles' latest on the offensive line, who's injured, who's back and who the favorite is to start at middle linebacker.

Brass tacks from Wednesday's press conference

- The only two players Miles confirmed as injured and out for this spring are QB Rob Bolden, still coming back from surgery on his knee in the offseason, and DE Justin Maclin, rehabbing from a leg injury of his own.

- Miles indicated that RB Alfred Blue, DE Jordan Allen and WR Travin Dural will all be available for spring practice the next five weeks. Dural was rumored to have had a second operation in the offseason, so this does come as a bit of a surprise.

- Miles said the following players would get "first cracks" at starting positions: La'el Collins at left tackle, Josh Williford at left guard and Lamin Barrow at middle linebacker. That would mean the starting offensive line to begin practice is, from left: Collins, Williford, Elliott Porter, Trai Turner and Vadal Alexander.

- Staying on the offensive line, Miles described newcomer Fehoko Fanaika as a "right-side player," doubting that he'd compete at all for time at the left guard position. Miles said Fanaika came in around 370 pounds and that the staff is trying to get the JuCo transfer down to the 330-350 pound range.

- At kicker, Miles mentioned there would be a "wide-open" competition for extra point and field goal duties. James Hairston, who previously has just been the kickoff specialist, will get a crack as will redshirt freshman Colby Delahoussaye.

- A few other notes: Miles said he feels confident that RB Kenny Hilliard will return "to an elite level" … He quickly mentioned Danielle Hunter's name at defensive end as someone who will "play a lot of football" …. He tossed out Corey Thompson's name before Ronald Martin's when listing players who will get opportunities opposite Craig Loston. Looks like there could be competition at safety.
