LSU leads for Upchurch

The recruiting process has been somewhat slow for Tony Upchurch. While that may be the case, Upchurch has collected one big offer so far. The four-star receiver will also be visiting that school tomorrow.

When Tony Upchurch received his offer from LSU, the 6-3 218 pound four-star receiver couldn't believe what he was hearing. Upchurch, who stars at Dawson High School in Pearland, Tx, has yet to see his recruitment take off, with the exception of LSU being involved with him. The Tigers got involved with Upchurch early in the process and will be receiving a visit from him on Friday.

"It has been going great," said Upchurch, when asked about his recruitment. "LSU has been talking to me a lot. I'm actually down here right now at the hotel. I'll be visiting the campus and everything tomorrow."

After a junior season that really displayed the versatility of Upchurch, it is hard to believe that LSU is his only offer. Upchurch caught 46 passes for 1,006 yards and twelve touchdowns, to go along with another 318 on the ground on only 29 carries.

Even though LSU is his only offer to date, Upchurch explained that it was the offer he had been hoping for.

"LSU has been one of my dream schools since the 7th grade," said Upchurch. "I've always wanted to go there and I'm looking more into it. I would love to play for Coach [Les] Miles. They would be at the top of my list regardless of other offers."

Heading into his visit, Upchurch is hoping that he can get to know the LSU coaching staff a little bit better, aside from his recruiter.

"I still have to get to know them a little bit," said Upchurch. "I know coach [Les] Miles and coach [Thomas] McGaughey and I are getting really close, but I don't really know everyone. I'll get to know everyone tomorrow."

Besides building relationships while on his visit, Upchurch is also looking forward to getting an in-depth view of LSU, from the school to the football program.

"Academics and the study hall stuff will be big for me to look at," said Upchurch. "I want to see what all of their facilities and the fan base are like as well. I want it to be a nice relaxing visit where I get to see everything."

Because he considers LSU a strong leader for his services, Upchurch has considered ending his recruitment in the near future. While the door is somewhat open for that to happen this weekend, Upchurch hopes to be able to take some more visits before making a final decision.

"It has crossed my mind, but I don't think it will happen tomorrow," said Upchurch, when asked if he has thought about committing to LSU. "I want to wait on that because I have some other visits to take. I want to take all of them just to see what else is out there."

Upchurch also added that the only other schools he is considering at this point are Texas A&M and Texas.
