There was quite a bit of shuffling in the SEC rankings following week two of conference play. Certain programs rose in the rankings, while others are still trying to find their identity. Several schools dropped as a result of poor showings over the weekend, including one program that was in the discussion to win the conference. Week three is once again full of good matchups and there should be a lot more learned about the programs after this weekend.
1) Vanderbilt (3)
Record: 22-4, 5-1
This weekend: Home vs. Tennessee
Over the weekend, Vanderbilt suffered their first loss of the SEC schedule. However, they still took two out of three in their series against Florida. The Commodores also beat Lipscomb during a midweek game. Tennessee will travel to play Vanderbilt this weekend for a series that could provide the Commodores with at least a couple more wins.
2) LSU (4)
Record: 23-2, 5-1
This weekend: At Missouri
LSU completed their first conference sweep of the year when they took all three games from Auburn over the weekend. It was also the first time in three seasons that LSU had won a series against Auburn. The Tigers also dismantled Tulane in a midweek game that was called after eight innings. LSU will travel to Missouri this weekend for their first trip to a cold weather place of the season. This weekend should be a productive one for the Tigers.
3) Kentucky (8)
Record: 19-5, 4-2
This weekend: Home vs. Georgia
Kentucky had some success over the weekend by taking two out of three from Mississippi State. The Wildcats also defeated Marshall in a midweek game on Wednesday night. They will now host the last-place Georgia Bulldogs this weekend in what will be a good opportunity for them to add some more notches to the win column.
4) Ole Miss (11)
Record: 22-4, 3-3
This weekend: At Florida
Ole Miss had a rough week during the second weekend of SEC play. They were defeated twice by Texas A&M last week. The Rebels bounced back and defeated Arkansas State on Wednesday night. They will now travel to Gainesville to face off against a struggling, but dangerous Florida squad. Ole Miss will need to be at the top of their game to win the series against the Gators this weekend.
5) Arkansas (15)
Record: 19-7, 4-2
This weekend: Home vs. #25 Mississippi State
After a slow start to SEC play, Arkansas bounced back in a big way in week two. The Razorbacks swept South Carolina over the weekend and also took two games from Mississippi Valley State. Arkansas will once again take on a ranked opponent when #25 Mississippi State comes to town. With the way Arkansas has been playing, another series sweep is not out of the question in week three.
6) South Carolina (17)
Record: 19-6, 2-4
This weekend: Home vs. Texas A&M
South Carolina had a reality check in week two when they were swept by Arkansas. Their lone win of the week came in a midweek contest against the College of Charleston. The Gamecocks will now look to get back on track against a Texas A&M team that has been on somewhat of a tear in recent weeks. It will be very telling about South Carolina to see how they respond after being swept.
7) Mississippi State (25)
Record: 26-6, 2-4
This weekend: At #15 Arkansas
After an incredible start to the 2013 season, Mississippi State has now lost two series in a row, with the most recent loss to Kentucky. They were able to claim a victory in their midweek game against Austin Peay. Things won't get any easier for the Bulldogs this weekend as they are set to travel to #15 Arkansas to play one of the hotter teams in the conference.
8) Texas A&M
Record: 18-8, 5-1
This weekend: At #17 South Carolina
Texas A&M surprised a lot of people when they took two out of three from the Rebels of Ole Miss last weekend. The Aggies also defeated UT-Arlington in a matchup that took place on Tuesday night. They will look to continue their hot streak in the conference when they travel to face another ranked opponent in #17 South Carolina.
Record: 16-10, 5-1
This weekend: At Auburn
Alabama did exactly what was expected of them over the weekend when they swept Georgia. However, the Crimson Tide couldn't keep the momentum rolling in their midweek matchup when they lost to UAB. They will now travel to Auburn to face off against a Tiger squad that is still in search of their first conference victory. It should be a weekend of close games between the two teams.
Record: 13-10, 3-3
This weekend: At #3 Vanderbilt
Tennessee took two out of three from Missouri over the weekend to even out their conference record. They were scheduled to play Tennessee Tech during the week, but had it postponed due to weather. The Volunteers will get a very tough test this weekend when they travel to face #3 Vanderbilt. This weekend will be very telling on whether or not Tennessee is on the right track.
Record: 15-10, 0-6
This weekend: Home vs. Alabama
Auburn had yet another rough series against LSU over the weekend when they were swept for the second straight week. The Tigers also suffered another defeat in their midweek matchup with Troy. They will now host in-state rival Alabama in week three. This weekend will be very important for Auburn if they hope to make any sort of an impact within the SEC.
Record: 11-15, 2-4
This weekend: Home vs. #11 Ole Miss
The most surprising team in the SEC this season has been Florida, and not for good reasons. The Gators lost their second consecutive SEC series over the weekend to Vanderbilt and then they were defeated by Florida State during the week. Things won't get any easier for the Gators this weekend as they will host #11 Ole Miss. If Florida can win the series against the Rebels, it will go a long way in getting them back on the straight and narrow in conference play.
Record: 9-12, 2-4
This weekend: Home vs. #4 LSU
The Tigers lost two out of three to Tennessee in week two of SEC play. They also had to delay a game until later in the week against Nebraska-Omaha because of weather conditions. They did end up defeating them on Wednesday night. Missouri will now host #4 LSU this weekend. This series has implications for both sides, as LSU would like to continue their dominance and Missouri is looking to find some consistency.
Record: 9-17, 0-6
This weekend: At #8 Kentucky
Georgia was swept by Alabama over the weekend for their second straight weekend of losing all three games in a series. They did bounce back and defeat Clemson in a midweek game that surprised a lot of people. The Bulldogs will look to notch their first SEC win this weekend, but it won't be easy. They will have to travel to face #8 Kentucky.
