Battle entertaining all his suitors

2014 S John Battle has received plenty of attention from programs across the country. While an impressive track season has most of his focus, he's made time to entertain all of his suitors. One of those is LSU, which ranks high on his list.

With 2014 S John Battle in the midst of a successful track season, it would be understandable if he put his recruitment on the back burner.

But thus far, he's juggled both as his recruitment has picked up heavily over the last couple months. He holds 11 offers and said he entertains all his suitors, all while winning just about every track meet he participates in.

"Things are going well," said Battle, who's run a 14.4-second 100-meter hurdles. "Track season is going good. I've placed top three in every meet, so I'm happy. I'm just trying to get my times to drop."

As far as his recruitment, Battle maintains contact with every school on his impressive offer list. The last program to extend him an offer was Kentucky on March 14.

He wouldn't name any official favorites, but mentioned LSU as one that's standing near the top of his list. He said he plans to make his first trip to Baton Rouge this summer.

"Yeah, I spoke with Coach Miles [last week]," Battle said. "We talked about me getting up there to check out the campus, come for a camp, things like that…They're still up near the top because of their broadcast program, and their football too."

Another early standout is Tennessee.

"The school that's recruiting me the hardest is Tennessee," Battle said. "I like the coaches. I just want to get up there and see what the school is all about and learn more about it."

Because of track, he plans to explore most of his opportunities this summer. He did make a trip to Florida State for a spring practice this past weekend, but that's the only visit he's made this spring.

Once the summer hits, he hopes to check out all the schools on his offer list, with LSU, Tennessee, South Carolina, USF, Louisville and North Carolina the programs he's most looking forward to visiting.

"There are a lot of schools," Battle said. "I pretty much talk to everybody that's offered me. I'm just trying to build relationship with all of them…I'll probably name a top five this summer, then make a final decision around signing day."
