Jones close to a commitment?

For the duration of Anthony Jones' recruitment, LSU has been the school atop his list. With the Tigers' coaching staff encouraging him to commit, is the three-star TE getting closer to pulling the trigger?

With one TE already on board for the 2014 Class, the LSU coaching staff has made it clear they'd like Edna Karr prospect Anthony Jones to be the second.

Jones added an offer from LSU in February, and the Tigers remain the program giving him the most attention. On Saturday, Jones made another trip to campus to see LSU's scrimmage and how the offense looks now under new OC Cam Cameron.

"I really enjoyed myself," Jones said. "It went well. I just went up there to check out the scrimmage and see how the offense looked. It was my first time getting to see them practice this spring. I think they're on track. Their new offensive coordinator has them running an up-tempo offense, and I like that."

Cameron has really spread out the LSU passing game, with an added emphasis on the tight ends. That is why Jones is such a primary target for LSU, because his athletic, receiving ability will translate perfectly into what Cameron wants to do.

"He uses the tight ends in a good way," Jones said. "He was using like three of them at one time, and that's perfect."

Throughout the day, Jones said he had the opportunity to talk with TE coach Steve Ensminger, Frank Wilson (his lead recruiter), Cameron and Coach Les Miles. Jones said the coaches are making it known they want him to commit soon.

"They've been recruiting me hard," Jones said. "I talk to them a lot and they ask me if I'm ready or not…Coach Ensminger was talking about how I could come in and be a real good player right away, how I could help the team out, how he'd use me in the offense and how he needs tight ends."

Jones admitted that he is getting close to pulling the trigger, but because he does have other suitors, he wants to make sure LSU is the perfect place for him before he makes the call.

"I just need to talk it over with family and friends to make sure it's the right fit for me," Jones said. "I want to make sure when I go there, I'm going to be happy there."

Jones said that decision will definitely come by the end of the spring, but did admit it could even come as early as this weekend. Jones will return to Baton Rouge for the Tigers' Spring Game, where he'll again meet with the coaches.

While LSU does have a definite advantage for Jones' commitment, Texas is the other school that's on Jones' mind.

"Pretty much LSU and Texas are my two favorites," Jones said. "I went [to Texas] on a visit and I talked to Coach [Mack] Brown a lot. He said they were going to offer me. At this point though, LSU is a little bit ahead of them."
