Bridgewater signs with LSU

Scotlandville standout Brian Bridgewater elected to stay near home and play for LSU, signing a National Letter of Intent for Johnny Jones and the Tigers on Wednesday. Come inside to hear Bridgewater's reaction to his big decision.

LSU added a sixth member to its projected Class of 2013 on Wednesday when Scotlandville forward Brian Bridgewater signed a National Letter of Intent to play for Johnny Jones and the home-state Tigers.

The former Episcopal High dual-sport athlete, who played tight end on the gridiron, will be the second Bridgewater brother to suit up for LSU basketball as his brother Brad donned the purple and goal from 1998-2002.

Brian Bridgewater announced his intentions and signed at a ceremony held in his school's library, along with three of his prep teammates destined for other Division-I schools.

Bridgewater is the fifth signee for LSU this year, following fall signees Jarell Martin, Jordan Mickey, Tim Quarterman and John Odo, the last of whom is already on campus as a junior-college transfer. Seven-foot Australian commitment Darcy Malone is expected to be the Tigers' sixth signee in the class.

Here is an HD video of Bridgewater and his mother discussing the player's decision. Below the links and video is a full transcript of our interview.

Ben Love: Brian, you made the decision and signed with LSU today. How does it feel?

Brian Bridgewater: It feels great. It feels like the world has been lifted off my shoulders, and now I'm just ready to get back in the gym.

BL: When did you first know or when did you come to a decision?

BB: I actually made the decision probably a week or two ago.

BL: Talk about being in the LSU class now. Do you have some familiarity with guys like Jarell Martin?

BB: Me and Jarell are real close. I'm actually going to call him right after I'm done with this to tell him.

BL: How has Coach Johnny Jones told you that you'll fit into the system?

BB: They kinda run an up-tempo game, and I have an uptempo game. I play inside-out, and that's something they like.

BL: To have this many teammates with you signing Division-I, what does that mean to you and to Scotlandville?

BB: It feels great. I'm happy for all my teammates. Those two over there (Tre'lun Banks and Jared Sam), they're going to Southern. So we're still be in town, and we'll be able to hang out.
