Manalapan High School (Englishtown, Nj.) four-star receiver Saeed Blacknall recently released a top-five of LSU, Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida State and Ohio State, in order. With his list of schools now narrowed down, the 6-3 190 pound Blacknall is trying to build on the relationships that he already had with the coaching staffs from those schools that made his final list.
"Everything has been nice and cool," Blacknall told TSD. "I put out a top-five a couple of weeks ago. I'm focusing on those schools and nitpicking on them to figure everything out. I've also just been building relationships with coaches."
LSU is one school that has been in contact with Blacknall from the very beginning of the recruiting process. As of now, everything remains status quo with the Tigers and the contact has been steady.
"It's been the same with LSU," said the four-star prospect. "I always call coach [Adam] Henry every week. I stay in contact with all of the other coaches regularly in some form as well."
Because of how prevalent the contact from LSU has been throughout his recruitment, Blacknall has had the Bayou Bengals as his top program for quite some time.
"They are still leading, but Alabama is kind of creeping up just because I want to listen to what they are all about," said Blacknall. "I want to give Alabama a chance, but LSU is still pretty solid at the top for me."
In addition to the LSU coaching staff heavily recruiting Blacknall, one of the earliest commitments for the 2014 class for the Tigers has reached out to him as well, in addition to relationships he has built with two top uncommitted Louisiana prospects.
"Ed Paris has been in contact with me and has been recruiting me to LSU," said Blacknall. "Malachi Dupre and Speedy Noil are some uncommitted guys that I've talked to and become friends with a little bit as well."
The conversations between Paris and Blacknall have ranged from recruiting to just advice being exchanged between the two.
"He recruits me in a different way," said Blacknall. "He was just telling me to go down there and see if it fit for me. He was just telling me that LSU is like no other place in the other country. He is kind of telling me that he took his visits and LSU ended up being the place for him. He just gives me tips on how to handle it."
With summer visits coming up for Blacknall, the nation's No. 25 receiver has locked down two dates for visits to two schools before he makes his final decision. Blacknall also added that he plans to hand out his verbal commitment following the two visits and doesn't anticipate ending the process before that point.
"I'm definitely going down to LSU this summer," said Blacknall. "I'll be at LSU on July 12th and at Alabama on the 16th. I'm still planning on making my decision shortly after my LSU visit. I want to have it out of the way before my season."
"I don't think I'll commit before I visit Alabama, but after all of that I'll have a choice. I should know immediately after that."
Aside from visits to Alabama and LSU, Blacknall is unsure if he will check out any of the other schools on his list before he renders a decision.
"Those are the only visits I have planned right now," said Blacknall. "It depends on Ohio State. I may see them this summer, but I don't know if I will have time. I really want to use my time to go down south."
Blacknall also added that he has no reservations about going to college in a different part of the country, as he has already discussed the possibility with his family.
