HOOVER, Ala. -- LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger answered several questions Thursday morning about the Tigers' trip to Athens in late September.
Mettenberger, who grew up in nearby Watkinsville and spent a year on Georgia's football team, was in good spirits when previewing the game and giving his expectations for his reception.
"I mean, what, they're going to cheer for me? Like, ‘Yeah, go Zach,'" Mettenberger deadpanned while answering a reporter's question and drawing laughs. "No, they're going to boo the crap out of me. I might get a fricking brick thrown at my head, who knows?
"But, no, it's going to be like anywhere else, going to play on the road. Everybody's going to be screaming at you. I'm anticipating for the worst for sure, but it's still going to be fun to be back home."
He also touched on how his dream of playing in Sanford Stadium is alive again, even if the circumstances are different.
"It's going to be great. As a kid growing up a Georgia fan, and my mom working there, I always dreamed of playing between the hedges," said Mettenberger. "Now I actually get that opportunity, just wearing purple and gold. So the dream's changed a little bit, but I still get to live it. It's going to be great going back home and playing in a place that's familiar with me."
Mettenberger also answered a question related to Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. The inquiry was aimed at what it's like to be a young quarterback invited to take part in the Manning Passing Academy.
"It's tough," explained Mettenberger. "There are social events at night that they have, and there's definitely temptation to do something foolish. He's only a 20-year-old kid, and he's been put into a huge spotlight and limelight that's tough to handle. But hopefully he'll learn from this and just become a better person."
