Saban urges fans to go for the gold vs. Auburn

LSU football coach Nick Saban and officials with Ochsner Clinic Baton Rouge kicked off a "Wear Your Gold T-shirt" promotion Tuesday for the LSU-Auburn game. Fans are being asked to wear gold to the game that is scheduled for Saturday, September 15, at 8 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. ESPN2 will be televising the game nationwide.

A T-shirt specially designed for the game will be available for sale at select locations, and proceeds from T-shirt sales will benefit cancer research and the LSU Academic Center for Athletes. The design on the shirt features "Mike the Tiger" riding the Auburn War Eagle to Atlanta and the Southeastern Conference championship. For each shirt sold, $1 will be donated to both the Ochsner Clinic Baton Rouge Cancer Research Fund and the LSU ACA.

The special T-shirts can be purchased at Tyger Gifts in Metairie, the LSU Bookstore on campus and both locations of the LSU Gift Center near Tiger Stadium

Over 2,000 new cancer patients are seen each year by members of the Ochsner Cancer Institute in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Their diagnoses comprise virtually every known type of cancer. Because Ochsner is dedicated to research and education, as well as the highest of patient care, cancer patients may benefit from innovative therapies that are at Ochsner much sooner than at other institutions in the region.

The old Gym Armory and sire of the LSU Academic Center for Athletes is undergoing renovation. The project will expand the facility from 10,000 square feet to 54,000 square feet and include enhancements such as new computer labs, extra study rooms and classrooms and a multi-media auditorium.
