Davey named to O'Brien Award watch list

LSU senior quarterback Rohan Davey is one of 30 players from across the nation listed on the "watch list" for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.

The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is given annually to the nation's top college quarterback.

Davey, a senior from Miami, Fla., is joined on the list by three other Southeastern Conference quarterbacks – Casey Clausen (Tennessee), Rex Grossman (Florida) and Jared Lorenzen (Kentucky).

Tulane's Patrick Ramsey is also on the list.

Last season, Davey was named national player of the week by several news organizations after leading the Tigers to a 38-31 overtime win over Tennessee in Tiger Stadium. Davey was also named the Peach Bowl's Most Outstanding Offensive Player after guiding the Tigers to a 28-14 come-from-behind win over Georgia Tech.

For his career, Davey has completed 69 of 111 passes for 1,068 yards and 11 touchdowns.

The list of 30 will be cut to eight semifinalists the first week of November with the winner being announced on Dec. 6, 2001 in Orlando, Fla. The award is named in honor of the late Davey O'Brien, the All-American and Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for TCU who led the Horned Frogs to the 1938 national title.
