According to sources, LSU has fielded inquiries from prospects across the country who are interested in considering LSU in 2015, as a direct result of Simmons' commitment.
Anthony Hickey and John Odo. Any players that don't leave early this year, such as freshmen Jarell Martin and Jordan Mickey, could potentially leave after 2015. That leaves LSU with at least two scholarships to give, and likely four.
With Simmons already in the fold, the LSU coaching staff is targeting three additional players and, according to a source, is "being very selective."
Point guard, wing and post are the positions LSU is trying to fill, with Simmons projected as a combo-forward, who can play both spots.
Byrd guard Chad Lott is who LSU is recruiting at point guard. Although listed at 6-3, he is a lengthy athlete with high-level leaping ability. Because of his size, he plays a lot of forward at the high school level, but LSU's coaching staff was impressed with his ability to play point guard this summer with the Louisiana Red Storm in Nike's EYBL. Lott was the Shreveport-Bossier MVP last season as a sophomore, as named by the Shreveport Times.
On the wing, LSU is recruiting local prospect Brandon Sampson of Madison Prep. Sampson is a former teammate of Martin and has become friends with many members of LSU's team. He attends LSU home games on a regular basis.
Guard Malik Newman of Calloway High School in Jackson is also being recruited by LSU. He is considered, along with Simmons, as one of the top three players in the class of 2015. He still has a lengthy list of schools he is considering, but LSU has a shot. LSU has offered scholarships to Newman, Lott and Sampson.
In the post, LSU's top prospect is Elijah Thomas. He is a top 10 player in the country and is still considering more than 20 schools. LSU is involved with him due to Mickey, as they are close family friends.
LSU is also recruiting 6-9 Tyler Davis, who is also a 5-star from the Dallas area. Davis is considering a long list of schools, including Arizona, Baylor, SMU, Kansas and TCU. LSU has offered both Thomas and Davis.
Other potential prospects for LSU are New Orleans-area guards Melvin Frazier and Von Julien.
