LSU too much for Vanderbilt

The Tigers improved to 11-5 overall, 2-2 in SEC play, with an 81-58 home win over Vanderbilt Saturday night. Johnny O'Bryant paced LSU with 22 points and 12 rebounds in a big bounce-back effort.

LSU (11-5, 2-2) rode a substantial advantage on the glass to an 81-58 home victory over Vanderbilt (9-7, 1-3) Saturday night in the PMAC.

The Tigers out-rebounded the visiting Commodores 48-24, pulling down 21 offensive boards in the process.

Johnny O'Bryant led the way for LSU, bouncing back from his poor showing at Ole Miss Wednesday night with a 22-point, 12-rebound performance against Vanderbilt. He was a constant at the charity stripe, attempting 14 free throws and connecting on 11 of them.

"We did a great job of attacking the zone," O'Bryant said following the game. "Our big men didn't settle for a lot of jump shots. We took it to the rim and got their big guys in foul trouble. We hit free throws tonight pretty well."

Three other Tigers scored in double figures, including Jordan Mickey (13), Jarell Martin (11) and Andre Stringer (10). Freshman guard Tim Quarterman also enjoyed one of his finer games of the season, scoring seven points and grabbing eight rebounds in 21 minutes.

Rob Odom was the high-water man for Vandy, pouring in 20 points and grabbing six rebounds.

LSU led 35-25 at halftime before shooting 58.6% from the field in the second half, igniting a run that put the game away from a competitive standpoint midway through the final 20 minutes.

"We're really excited for our team and our guys to really be rewarded for their efforts in practice and in game," explained coach Johnny Jones. "They've been playing hard and to have an outcome like this, it's great."
