Plans changing for four-star DL

Four-star DL Malik McDowell has changed his visit plans. McDowell will check out LSU on Jan. 31 instead of this coming weekend as previously scheduled. TSD has all the latest on the Tigers' chances of landing this prospect from the Midwest.

Four-star DL Malik McDowell has pushed back his official visit to LSU, according to Scout's Allen Trieu.

McDowell will trip to Baton Rouge on Jan. 31 instead of this coming weekend as previously scheduled. He will visit nearby Michigan State this weekend, and the Spartans are felt to be the favorite to land him.

LSU has made McDowell one of its top targets along the defensive line. DL coach Brick Haley started building a solid relationship with him before the dead period, and that has continued this past week. Les Miles made an in-home visit with McDowell last Thursday, the first day of this contact period.

The Tigers are felt to be a long shot though, as most believe McDowell will stick closer to home. Though no one seems to have a firm grasp on his intentions, Michigan State does have the most confidence heading down the stretch.

But McDowell has at least appeared open to heading down south. He's already visited Alabama, Florida and Florida State, and the Tigers will hope for an opportunity to impress him on that final weekend before NSD.

The recruiting news has been coming hot and heavy this week, as we're only 14 short days from National Signing Day. LSU is the "top choice" for top OT target Derrick Kelly, and get even more coverage in Tuesday's Recruiting Tidbits with notes on Lorenzo Carter, Russell Gage, Emanuel Porter and Damian Prince.
