Lealaimatafao's down to two

LSU is a finalist for 2014 DT Trey Lealaimatafao, who will announce his final decision on National Signing Day. Will it be the Tigers or Oregon for this three-star prospect.

2014 DT Trey Lealaimatafao has his finalists.

After completing his final official visit this past weekend, Lealaimatafao has narrowed it down to LSU, Oregon and UCLA for his commitment, which he plans to announce on National Signing Day.

According to Scout's Brandon Huffman, UCLA are no longer in the picture though as they've run out of room at defensive tackle. That leaves either the Tigers or Ducks for this three-star prospect.

Those two schools received his two final visits. He made an unofficial trip to Baton Rouge on Jan. 17 and was in Eugene this past weekend. According to Scout's Robby Boydstun with EDuck.com, Oregon really likes Lealaimatafao's speed and explosiveness and feel they're in a good spot with him after the visit.

But Lealaimatafao is a top target for LSU as well with the Tigers still in desperate need for defensive tackles. With him being such a priority for both programs, expect each one to ramp up their efforts on him heading into the final stretch.

Lealaimatafao doesn't have any in-home visits scheduled for this week, but coaches from both schools met with him last week. LSU's Thomas McGaughey, his area recruiter, visited him last Wednesday to help capitalize on the momentum gained from his visit the previous weekend.

Lealaimatafao gave that trip rave reviews, particularly because of how much one-on-one time he got to spend with Les Miles.

"Coach Miles told me I was No. 1 on their recruiting board and spent a lot of time with me," Lealaimatafao said last week after his visit. "He took me to the top of the stadium and gave me a tour around campus, just me and him."

Sources at LSU are very confident in their chances of landing him, especially with all the ties Lealaimatafao has to Baton Rouge. His mother's side of the family lives in the Red Stick, and his cousin, Seimone Augustus, is one of the best women's basketball players to ever suit up at LSU.

Whether that's enough to lock him up remains to be seen, but LSU definitely likes its position with only nine days remaining until NSD. Stick with TSD for more coverage of Lealaimatafao's recruitment by following along on the Message Board.
