Lealaimatafao picks the Tigers

LSU landed an early morning victory Wednesday when DT Trey Lealaimatafao announced he'd sign with the Tigers. It came down to LSU and Oregon, but it will be the Tigers that get this three-star defensive tackle.

DT Trey Lealaimatafao signed Wednesday with LSU, choosing the Tigers over Oregon and UCLA.

LSU didn't enter the mix for Lealaimatafao until late in the cycle, but the Tigers closed strongly in the final weeks. His unofficial visit on Jan. 17 was what really set the Tigers apart, and with a lot of family in Baton Rouge, LSU was the comfortable choice.

"Staying close to home was important to me," Lealaimatafao said. "And LSU is DTU [Defensive Tackle University] and I want to get to the NFL in a few years...

"I thank the LSU staff for giving me this opportunity that millions dream of...They have a great program and I am truly honored to be a part of this tremendous 2014 recruiting class."

Lealaimatafao's a three-star prospect ranked as the No. 36 defensive tackle in the country. At about 6-foot, 300 pounds, he's a short but powerful linemen with great explosiveness off the line.
