LSU debuts in top five of team rankings

Scout unveiled its initial team rankings for the Class of 2015, and LSU opens with the third best class in the nation. With a five-star prospect already on board, and three commits ranked in the Top 100, the Tigers are off to a promising start for the 2015 class.

LSU debuts in the top five of the national team rankings for the Class of 2015, as released by Scout on Tuesday.

The Tigers come in at No. 3 after finishing with the country's second best class in 2014. With seven total commits, including four rated four-star or higher, LSU's already off to a strong start and have laid a solid foundation to build another top class.

All five of the top spots in these initial rankings — and six of the top ten — are occupied by SEC teams. Texas A&M leads the way, followed by last year's recruiting national champion Alabama. Georgia and Arkansas round out the top five behind LSU.

The Tigers currently have seven players committed, which is actually tied for third most in the country behind Mississippi State (nine) and Clemson (eight). Texas A&M, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida State and TCU also have seven pledges in 2015.

CB Kevin Toliver headlines the Tigers' 2015 class as the lone five-star prospect currently committed. LSU's one of seven schools already with a five-star on board. The Tigers finished with four five-stars in 2014, but without a player rated that highly in the state of Louisiana, LSU will have to come through with another exceptional out-of-state haul to match that in 2015.

LSU does lead the way having three commits ranked in the top 100 (Toliver, OG Maea Teuhema and RB Nicholas Brossette). Only Alabama has that many top 100 prospects committed for 2015.

Though there aren't any five-star prospects in Louisiana for 2015, the state is littered with four-star talent that would help propel LSU up the rankings. The Tigers are coming off a very successful "Boys from the Boot" junior day this past weekend, and appear in great shape to lock down some of the state's top talent.

Four-star prospects still up for grabs in Louisiana include: No. 64 WR Tyron Johnson (Warren Easton), No. 96 RB Derrius Guice (Catholic), No. 106 T.D. Moton (Shreveport Woodlawn), No. 122 OT Jerry Tillery (Evangel, Notre Dame commit), No. 145 WR Jazz Ferguson (West Feliciana), No. 166 CB Xavier Lewis (East St. John).
