Alexander reportedly reopens recruitment

Reports surfaced Thursday afternoon that 2016 five-star DL Ed Alexander has reopened his recruitment. The Hammond native was LSU's first commit in the sophomore class.

2016 five-star DL Ed Alexander (Hammond | St. Thomas Aquinas) has decided to reopen his recruitment, according to Demetric Warren with VarsityPreps. TSD has not yet reached Alexander for confirmation.

Alexander was LSU's first commit in the 2016 class. He landed an offer from the Tigers this past November and committed a few days later on Nov. 23.

At the time, Alexander also had offers from Florida and Ole Miss, and several other programs will likely come calling now that he's open to other options.

Alexander already ranks as a five-star prospect, the only one in the state at this point in the cycle. He's one of only five five-star prospects in the country and one of two defensive linemen with that lofty ranking. He's also one of 13 Louisiana prospects ranked four-stars or higher by Scout.

Alexander has been on LSU's campus a number of times since committing, including trips to Baton Rouge for "Boys from the Boot" in February and again a few weeks ago for the Spring Game.

With Alexander no longer in the class, that leaves Donaldsonville WR Stephen Sullivan the only commit in LSU's 2016 class.

For more on Alexander's decision to reopen his recruitment, head to the TSD Message Board for more information.
